Jay Kang (Princeton ’26) founded Oaktree Admissions Consulting in 2022 in his last year of high school because of his passion for helping younger students achieve their dreams. He was the number one ranked American debater at the World Individual Debate and Public Speaking Championships, and he founded a carbon offsetting nonprofit that offset over 1 million pounds of carbon — gaining media recognition.
During his college process, he was obsessive about the college process and read through 130 pages of the Harvard trial decision, 155 pages of the UNC trial decision, and 237 pages of the Supreme Court’s combined affirmative action ruling to glean insights about the admissions process, which he used to bolster his own Ivy League application essays. He brings this same obsessiveness for admissions excellence to every student that works with Oaktree.
Jay has helped scale Oaktree over the past three years by interviewing 100+ Harvard, Yale, and Princeton students to hand-select a team of 24 of the best mentors: 10 from Harvard, 6 from Yale, and 8 from Princeton. Our team brings experience as nationally and internationally recognized nonprofit founders, Scholastic Gold Medalists in writing, ISEF/Regeneron finalists, and international-level debaters.
Almost every single Oaktree mentor attended top private boarding schools, giving us a unique understanding of the nuances in applying from elite academic environments.
